Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Marseille in a Shootout to Claim French Season-Opening Trophy in the Middle East.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening trophy on fourteen different occasions.

The Parisian giants required a dramatic leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and capture a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a comfortable win in the match between the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger found the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side struck two times in the closing moments to take a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a remarkable twist of events, the Portuguese striker grabbed a crucial equaliser in the dying seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping decisive kicks from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for Paris Saint-Germain to seal a convincing shootout victory.

The record winners Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after achieving a domestic double, have now won this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
