Roughly 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to law enforcement.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they announced in a official communication.
Law enforcement report they were contacted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a man observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then located many other smeared automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Police state initial examinations suggest the substance was likely blood from a person.
"There is still no lead as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any injuries in connection with the event," they stated.
Local authorities stated they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking official commented the vandalism made him speechless and required to be solved rapidly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the far-right violent incident half a decade ago," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant focusing on people of migrant background in February 2020.
